A four-piece from Sydney and Gold Coast, the Bootleg Rascal crew like to think of themselves as ghetto dubsters. Like many a good story, the beginning of the band took place in the back room of a seedy gig in Sydney.
They bonded, hit the garage, nutted out a few songs, and made their debut at the Woodford Folk Festival. Asleep in the Machine is the name of their debut, an album that delivers some “tacolicking tones that shoot from the hip and bounce off into a galaxy of space gorillaz”. You know how that goes. It’s a classic story. Once their local run of shows wraps up, the lads will be heading for the US. Bootleg Rascal hits The Karova, Ballarat tomorrow night, March 4.
