Bones and Jones: Living Given

After seeing Bones and Jones shred the stage at last years QMF, it was such an exciting surprise when they announced their debut album, Living Given, and let me tell you, it does not disappoint. Living Given highlights exactly what Bones and Jones are as a band, the perfect reminder of what has previously come through Geelong’s local scene contrasted with their unique style that can only act as an indication of where the scene is heading.
With a sound reminiscent to The Frowning Clouds, Living Given gives listeners 11 varying songs that work incredibly well as a whole. From the mellow psych vibes of ‘Dissipate’ and ‘Tookems’ to the bluesy harmonica on ‘Wasting Time’, Living Given is truly a diverse album that aims to capture a range of influences on the band, leaving them open to go in any direction they want for album number two.
Rounding off with the beautifully melancholic ‘I’m On My Way’, Living Given truly exceeds being a good album by a local band, and instead is just a great album in general. If Living Given is any indicator, Bones and Jones have an incredibly impressive future ahead of them, so check them out while you can. They’ll be performing at Geelong’s Barwon Club on June 2.
