Geelong’s Pistol Pete’s will serve up a ripper of a gig on Good Friday Eve (March 24), with Big Daddy Wilson set to perform. Wilson was born in Edenton, a town on Albemarle Sound in Chowan County, North Carolina.
As he recalls in his biography: “We were very poor but I had a very beautiful childhood. Me and my sisters were raised by Mom and Grandma. We lived a simple life, we went to church every Sunday, school on weekdays. I also worked back then on the tobacco plantation and in the cotton fields, I was a real country boy.” After quitting school at the age of 16, Wilson pursued a military life. It was during a station in Germany, where he resides today, that he met his future wife, and the inspiration for a poem which would become his first song. He also met another love in Germany, that of the blues.
Wilson again: “I met the blues here in Germany. I didn’t know what the blues was before. It was here that I found a part of me that was missing for so long in my life.” Big Daddy Wilson is currently in Australia promoting his new album, Time.
