Belmont’s favourite coffee spot Paddington Cafe to double as late-night bar, serving fine booze and delicious eats

Paddington Cafe is continuing to bring some quality inner-city cafe culture to their local community in new and exciting ways.

Since opening at its first location in September 2020, Paddington Cafe captured Geelong’s attention, with the Belmont community quick to embrace them, causing the humble and unassuming café owners to outgrow their quaint store in less than a year.

Taking all they learned from their hidden laneway spot, Paddington Café owners and hospitality pros Molly Shalders and Tom Beattie (and perhaps the nicest humans you will ever meet!) transported their neighbourhood eatery to a brand-new location on High Street, right in the heart of Belmont late last year. Takes the industrial-chic look that’s common in Melbourne’s cafes and making it warm, inviting and homely, Paddington Cafe could convince you you’re having coffee in your best friend’s home, rather than Belmont.

Keep up with the latest food and booze news across the region here.

And while we didn’t think it was possible to adore this place anymore, they’ve just given us one more reason, becoming a double threat and opening on Thursday to Sunday nights as a late-night hangout.

Giving us one more destination to indulge in after-work cocktails and delicious eats, Paddington Cafe will transform from an all-day café into a relaxed spot to start the night from 6pm each of these nights.

Whether you’re spending the night with best pals or the work crew, treat yourself with their modern European style menu, with frites with truffle aioli and romesco sauce; pork rilettes; tomato medley bruschetta with soft mozzarella and white anchovies; and cheesy gruyere croquettes, among other delicious snacky options.

If you’re feeling something more hearty, there’s also a tidy burger menu featuring a Bisou-Bisou burger, a Piglet Smash, and a One Step Beyond burger, with the option to add on fries.

There are no surprises that an espresso martini features on the menu, but you can also indulge in the likes of a French martini, Negroni, Gimlet, Manhattan, and a Tommy’s Margarita. If you’re feeling adventurous try the Isle Of Dogs, made with Japanese gin, yuzu liqueur, yellow chartreause and lime. Cocktails range from $16-$18.

A place of community, creativity and old-fashioned customer service, as always they’re supporting local with FarmDog beers on tap alongside tinnies from Mount Pleasant Road Brewers, and a small rotating wine list with drops courtesy of Blackhearts & Sparrows in Newtown.

Paddington Nights will operate Thursday to Sunday, from 6pm until late.
