Leaning into her swampy country blues and roots background, ‘Diamond in the Mine’ echoes her intricate songwriting as shown on previous albums Soft Gold and Home and Heart. Working through feelings of loss and the difficulty of bearing the weight of life, the track is an honest reflection of her own story.

The track is a taste of her upcoming album NGR&B, due for release on July 5 through Cheersquad Records & Tapes, which sees her collaborate with sons Fenn Wilson (one of Tim Rogers’ “favourite singers in the world”), and George Carroll Wilson of Pollyman fame on bass and drums respectively, Jackie Marshall, long-time collaborator and guitarist Leigh Ivin, Shannon Bourne on keys and Tim Neal on clarinet. Recorded in 2023 at Big Fridge Studio on Wadawurrung Country with engineering from Jasper Jolly, the album came to life with mixing and mastering by Isaac Barter.

Carroll will be launching the album at Coburg RSL on Saturday 27 April alongside her mainstay band The Big Fuss. Album contributor Jackie Marshall will take the spotlight on the night, also launching her own album You Are Not Too Much and You Are Enough. Mastaneh Nazarian will also be a special guest on the night.
