Barefoot Spacemen launch their debut album ‘Tailspin’ at Volta on February 9. Melbourne’s hardest-working funk band will be joined by a host of musical collaborators on stage for a night of guaranteed grooves and a crowded dancefloor. The 8-piece live act takes you on a groove odyssey, creating a soundscape that blends disco, funk, R&B and Latin-inspired rhythms – a blend that’s helped their intimate nightclub shows gain popularity and the group garner a cult fanbase.
Joining the band for a night of guaranteed dancefloor fillers are the smooth storytelling Spav and the sixties sounds of The Pearlies.
‘Tailspin’ is Barefoot Spacemen’s debut album and a collection of tracks inspired by classic funk and soul grooves, modern R&B and old-school disco rhythms – with some Latin influences thrown in for good measure. The album follows the story of an airport crush that develops into a long-distance relationship, highlighting the complications that come with it and the eventual growing apart of the characters involved. ‘Tailspin’ is the perfect soundtrack to get you feeling far away and have you crying in the club – all while feeling the collective energy of music and movement around you.
