Ballarat’s new Knight and Day Festival announce first band on the lineup, more event details revealed

Hellions live

Sydney band Hellions have been confirmed for the lineup, performing their fan favourite album Opera Oblivia in full.

Earlier this week a brand new festival was revealed to be heading our way, with leading Australian promoter Destroy All Lines announcing a two-day metal, punk and rock festival, dubbed Knight and Day Festival, would be heading to the medieval Kryal Castle in Ballarat this December.

While we weren’t expecting an announcement quite so soon, the festival has dropped their first artist announcement to get music lovers talking, with the full announcement to drop soon.

The key takeaways

  • Knight and Day Festival is heading to regional Victoria this year
  • Taking over Ballarat’s Kryal Castle, the two-day festival will celebrate all things metal, punk and rock on December 30 and 31
  • Sydney band Hellions have been confirmed for the lineup

Taking to the legendary land of adventure, with knights, dragons, wizards, kings, queens, princesses, fairies and so much more, Sydney punk rockers Hellions have been revealed as the first act, performing their fan favourite album Opera Oblivia in full.

Released mid-2016, the band’s third release defined Australia’s alternative scene with an explosively honest and poignant outpouring of raw human emotion, featuring tearing riffs and venomous punk fury, weaved around grandiose Queen-esque histrionics and Broadway balladry. Boasting lead singles ‘Thresher’ and ‘Quality of Life’, this album saw the hardcore band push the boundaries of their music much further and in five years has already grown to become a bonafide classic for punk and emo fans around the world.

Speculation already surrounds the festival lineup with fans guessing the likes of Parkway Drive, Polaris, Make Them Suffer, Karnivool, King Parrot and Deadlights.

Set to take place on December 30 and 31, the festival already unveiled its location as none other than regional tourist attraction Kryal Castle in Ballarat (Australia’s only medieval adventure park has long been providing family fun for visitors since opening in 1974), but has now provided updates regarding the festival format which is not a camping festival. There won’t be accommodation available on site but there are tonnes of local options available for booking here.

The festival has also revealed the labyrinth maze at Kryal Castle will be open for festival attendees. “If you find yourself with a rare gap in your timetable, the labyrinth maze at Kryal Castle will keep you entertained, or confused!”

As for a COVID strategy, “There’ll be a plan b for this” (should COVID restrictions get in the way).

Keep an eye on socials for further updates about the two-day festival.
