Karova Lounge are still providing some fabulous music acts for the people of Ballarat. Make sure the kids are well and truly home and in bed before Amberyse hit Karova on October 19, to launch into their power-packed metal sound. Having released Born Too Familiar earlier in the year, the energetic stage presence of this Geelong-born band has seen them gain much popularity for a band that formed as recently as 2015. If drumming is your thing, you had better get along to see new addition to the band, Tom “Slam King” Allevi who has recently moved over to Victoria from S.A to join Amberyse. The band are hotter than ever with their main focus being on writing new material and have recently supported Toxicon, I Exalt and Advocates. Take your head banging hair-do and your earplugs. It’s bound to be a thumping night!

The Hard Aches have an interesting sound that is like a mix of Regurgitator and Rat Cat… on full bore! The lads are doing a pretty unique thing on their Brain Dead Tour as they play in skate parks, guitar shops, cafes and…um Karova Lounge on October 20! It’s $15 to get in, which is a cheap night out in the Rat.

Here’s something quirky to get along to. Romancing The Skull will run at The Art Gallery of Ballarat from 14 October to 28 January. The exhibition looks at the depiction of the skull in art and examines why we continue to be so enamoured with this iconic symbol. Sounds like skulduggery to me!

Don’t forget everyone’s favourite drinking venue, Hop Temple, have live music from 1:30pm every Sunday. The newly refurbished Munster Arms also has live music on Wednesday and Saturday nights, as well as a mighty fine selection of beers on tap, and damn fine fare to chow down.

The stylish and legendary Jazz singer, Vince Jones, will play one of the last shows at Suttons House of Music on 21 October. Jones started playing in the late ’70s and early ’80s and has around 20 albums to his name. Being an amazing trumpet player, Jones is playing it less and his style has developed a distinctive reserve and subtlety in recent times. There will be a 12 hour all local and live free music marathon on Sunday 29 October to farewell the mighty Suttons House of Music. This is a ‘must get along to’!
