Ballarat Blog #666

Step back in time and go to The Royal Oak Hotel for dinner. The meals are old fashioned, wholesome and hearty. Probably the best thing about dining here is that you can help yourself to the bain marie which is chock full of vegetables, like scallop potatoes, mashed pumpkin, peas or carrot. The staff, in true Australian style, come up to you when your meal is ready and say “Ya meal is on the bain marie Love”. It’s a classic place in the heart of the Rat.

If you are starved of break up songs, get along to Bloom singing The Adele and Amy Songbook on Friday June 16 at Suttons House Of Music. Along with a five piece band, Bloom will also bring a small taste of her own material. Tickets are $30 so you better get them quick sticks or you might miss out on this superstar in the making. Doors open at 8.30pm.

Powered by his acoustic 12 string guitar, Brett Franke will play blues, roots, funk and progressive acoustic rock for the Sunday session on June 18. Entry is free so get down and support Brett. I have heard a rumour that a few new original tunes will be getting a run, so this might just be the way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

The Hop Temple have live music starting at around 1.30pm on Sundays. Get down to check out some of the innovative, tasty food the kitchen are putting on at the moment. This place is an absolute God-send for Ballarat and I have always found the staff will trip over themselves to help you out. If you can’t find a beer you like on tap, there are loads of speciality beers in the fridge. The staff have plenty of knowledge about their products, so don’t be afraid to ask for some guidance. Love this place so much!

Friday 23rd of June sees Echoes Of Pink Floyd playing at Her Majesty’s Theatre. If the lighting show is anything to go by, this will be a killer show. All the instrument sounds are pretty spot on from what I’ve heard from the Adelaide tribute band so if you are a Pink Floyd nut, you can grab a ticket for $70.

Boo Seeka are a very interesting two piece playing Karova Lounge on Saturday June 24. Really cool soothing sounds. Off you go and get along!
