Ballarat Blog #661

There is a bit happening on the music scene up here in the Rat, with some really interesting acts coming to town. Jeff Lang wowed the lucky few who ventured down to Suttons House Of Music on Saturday the 25th March. Lang spent his youth in Geelong and has made a huge name for himself as a blues/ roots artist.

Whilst we are on Suttons House Of Music, the legendary Ian Moss is returning to Ballarat on Friday 4th August, and whilst it is a fair way off, get your tickets as soon as possible as they are selling like hot cakes.

Suitcase Full Of Blues are playing on April 8th bringing jazz, RnB and a dash of Latin. The band are renowned for getting people off their butts and onto the dance floor. Sounds like a great way to spend the night. It’s only $7 to get in and that is a bargain in itself.

If you would like your ears to ring until Easter Sunday, why not get down to Karova Lounge on Saturday the 8th of April for Batpiss. Playing punk/sludge, these lads from Melbourne have just completed their third album and are coming off a sell-out show at the Gasometer in Melbourne. Certainly the sounds of Radio Birdman seem to have had an influence on this band, so if that’s your thing you had better get along to this show. $12 to get in is very reasonable. That would get you half a song at an Adele concert.

The Lake View Hotel is doing some fabulous promotions at the moment. If you rock up there on a Friday night with 10 people or more, you get a $100 credit on your drinks tab. That’s a cracking way to start the weekend I say. Parmas are only $15 on a Thursday night and a great initiative on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights, you pay for your pizza according to the time you order it. So order at 7pm, you pay $7 and so on. Here’s where I am spending the next few weeks.

The best beer on tap in Ballarat can be found at the Athletic Brewery down on Mair Street. I have a serious addiction to these beers. Often changing the styles on tap, the recent Calypso IPA was a delightful beer, and as an every day ‘go-to’ beer, the Sparkling Ale is consistently delicious. Yum yum.
