Australians have just days to send presents if they want them to arrive in time for Christmas.
With Christmas merely weeks away, Australia Post is reminding Aussies of the latest dates to get cards and parcels delivered across the country (and the world) in time for Christmas Day.
This is one of the busiest times of the year for Aus Post, and they have some pretty strict deadlines for when cards and parcels need to be popped in the post so those special people in your lives aren’t disappointed come Christmas day.
Stay up to date with what’s happening in and around the region here.
If you’re wanting your gift to land before Christmas Day and you’re sending it to anywhere in Australia (excluding WA and NT), you’ll need to get them into the post by December 12. If you miss this cut-off date and don’t mind paying a little extra, parcels can be sent by express post as late as Monday, December 19.
Standard parcel post deadlines have already passed in Western Australia and the Northern Territory but customers have until Wednesday, December 14 to send via express post.
Cards and letters being sent by regular post can also be sent as late as Monday, December 19. But they must be sent by Thursday, December 15, to go interstate.
To assist with demand this year, Australia Post has launched weekend delivery to support the expected increase in parcel volumes in the lead-up to Christmas. The weekend delivery schedule has been implemented in all metro capitals and some regional cities and towns.
“We’ve been preparing all year for another big Christmas, including recruiting thousands of additional staff to ensure things run as smoothly as possible,” executive general manager of Australia Post Gary Starr said.
“Commencing a temporary Saturday delivery service is just another measure we have put in place to help us get parcels delivered on time this festive season.”
Weekend deliveries will remain in place up until Christmas.

Sadly but unsurprisingly, the cut-off for sending internationally was back in November, so anything sent now will most definitely arrive late unless you’re using International Standard and Express, then you have a bit more time.
“If posting with International Express, some popular destinations like the USA, the UK, New Zealand and Canada should be sent by 9 December,” Australia Post had said in a statement.
