Audio-Technica brings the cult-favourite Sound Burger back just in time for the holidays

Words by Kaya Martin

From dedicated vinyl enthusiasts to record shop novices, every music lover on your list will appreciate an Audio-Technica Sound Burger. Sleek, streamlined and effortlessly cool, it’s a cult favourite for a reason.

What is the Sound Burger, you ask? It’s a record player that’s portable. Forget the massive vinyl setups you’re used to and opt instead for this thin, lightweight device, perfect for small spaces or bringing along with you wherever your day goes.

In celebration of its 60th anniversary, Audio-Technica has just brought back the Sound Burger for a limited time only. However the device, last on sale 40 years ago, isn’t exactly the same as it was back then.

Stay up to date with what’s happening in and around the region here.

It’s been given a modern makeover and is now equipped with a USB-C charging port as well as Bluetooth capabilities, so you can connect it without any fussy cables or antiquated speakers (although it does still come with cables for the purists out there).

The device is perfect for almost any occasion. Holiday BBQs in the park, afternoons at the beach, carolling with the family… With up to 12 hours of charge, it can really do it all. Just toss in a record, fold it up, press play and be on your merry way.

For its size, the Sound Burger packs a heavy punch offering high-quality sound reproduction with a belt-drive system that plays 33-1/3 and 45 RPM records. The design has been expertly crafted for stability and movement, with a dynamic balance system in the tone arm that applies stylus pressure using a spring, while a reliable DC motor keeps your record spinning.

Coming in black, white and yellow, it has a retro aesthetic that nods back to its days of origin. We’re sure it’ll bring many smiles when it’s found under the tree this Christmas.
