Entries can be up to 20 minutes long and are welcomed from any genre or style. The festival’s commitment to accessibility is clear – aspiring filmmakers are encouraged to participate regardless of the equipment they use. In fact, many successful entries in the past have been shot on smartphones, proving that creativity and storytelling are the true stars of the show.
AUYFF’s awards span several categories, including Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Documentary, Best Animation, Best Acting, Best Under-18 Filmmaker, and Best Overall Film. The winners will receive a mix of professional filmmaking equipment, mentorship opportunities, and educational programs to help further their creative journey.
The festival culminates in a live-streamed red carpet awards ceremony, to be held in Melbourne this year. The event will celebrate the achievements of young filmmakers and provide them with the opportunity to network with industry professionals, public figures, and creative leaders.
Beyond the awards, AUYFF also offers successful nominees a chance to participate in an exclusive industry day. This event will provide invaluable access to industry insights, networking opportunities, and hands-on learning experiences that will help shape their future careers in the screen industry.
For those interested in applying, entries are open now through the end of May. Full details and submission guidelines can be found on the official website at auyff.com.
