Aquilo: Silhouettes

Cinematic art rock has a new king, or kings. Emotionally crafted, Silhouettes by English group Aquilo is an album brimming with heartfelt lyricism, sorrowful string arrangements and just all round killer songs. Opening with the track ‘Silhouette’, this album is crafted in the perfect way of ebbs and flow, and peaks and troughs. Sounding equal parts like a mix between The XX, Radiohead and atmospheric parts of Sigur Ros’s discography, this album is definitely worth checking out.

The vocal harmonies of Tom Higham and Ben Fletcher are at moments so in tune with each other, it sends shivers down your spine. Having released five EPs over the course of the last three years, this is an album that has been highly anticipated for a while, now it’s here we can all bask in the glory of the perfectly crafted pop song. With nearly two million monthly listens on Spotify and having been featured on the soundtrack to Grey’s Anatomy, Vampire Diaries, and Pretty Little Liars, the real question here is, why haven’t you got around this album yet?

This is an album that blends so many sonic landscapes to create a stunning debut. Don’t compromise your listening experience by bailing out halfway through. Over 47 minutes and 14 tracks, take a gamble, I’m sure you’ll agree with me soon enough. Stunning pop from beginning to end.
