For the brave, bold and creative.

Here to inspire creativity and support positive risk-taking, the Geelong Arts Centre are offering a new round of grants through its Creative Engine program to benefit artists and creatives working in the G21 region, ensuring they stay positive and remain active in their creative endeavours.

Totalling $12,000 in financial grants and $30,000 of value-in-kind studio access at the arts centre’s landmark Ryrie Street building, including studios spaces and our Creative Engine co-working space, the six available grant packages will directly benefit individuals and organisations who are looking to develop new and exciting work, push the boundaries, and advance their contemporary arts practice.

Keep up with the latest in local news via our website.

Selected projects span multiple artistic disciplines, including dance, magic, theatre and docu-film, but share in common their ability to meet the program’s three selection criteria: connection, innovation and thoughtfulness.

The available packages include two of each of the following:

Ignition

This package is designed for projects that are in the early stages of creation and need support in transitioning from creative development to preparation for presentation. A successful Ignition offer will include cash contribution of up to $5,000, access to performance and rehearsal studio spaces (up to 76 hours), access to co-working and meeting spaces, mentoring opportunities with leading independent practitioners, marketing support and Front of House support.

Jump Start

Do you have a burning idea that you’re keen to explore? The Geelong Arts Centre are offering once-off Jump Start cash grants and access to performance and co-working spaces for innovative concepts to play and explore their ideas further. A successful Jump Start offer will include cash contribution up to $1,000, access to performance and rehearsal studio spaces (up to 38 hours) and access to co-working and meeting spaces.

Place to Make

Whether you need space for workshops, concept development or networking, the Place to Make initiative is designed to give you FREE access to our world-class studio spaces, giving creatives and companies a testing ground to sample and refine ideas. A successful Place to Make offer will include access to performance and rehearsal studio spaces (up to 38 hours) and access to co-working floor and meeting spaces.

Playing a pivotal role in the continuation of the arts in uncertain times, the Geelong Art Centre’s Creative Engine (a co-working space and eponymous arts development program) was introduced in October 2019 with a primary directive to support individuals and artistic collectives and build sustainable arts practices within regional Victoria.

In addition to value-in-kind occupancies and grants funding, Creative Engine provides access to workshops, masterclasses, industry networking and creative bootcamps for the creative community of Geelong.

Applications are welcomed from all practising artists across all artforms looking to develop new works, and cross-genre projects are highly encouraged! First Nations artists, artists of diverse backgrounds and artists with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

Projects awarded a grant in this round must complete their development prior to December 16 2022. Further details regarding the application process and eligibility requirements can be found on the Creative Engine website.

Grant applications open now until 5pm Friday 18 February, with successful projects notified on Friday 4 March. Head here for more information.
