Apollo Bay Seafood Festival are sending out an SOS, and you don’t want to miss this one

Words by Riya Kiran

It would be quite a shame not to head down and ring in the new year with hands full of local seafood and lips on a drink or two.

After the crazy year of 2020, it’s only fair that you get to enjoy some of the best that the community has to offer. The much-loved Apollo Bay Seafood Festival is back and are taking on 2021 with a series of ‘Summer of Seafood’ (SOS) covid-friendly events throughout late January and February, replacing the annual three-day festival.

Believe us when we say you will have the time of your life devouring delicacies at the outdoor street party, as The Apollo Bay Distillery and The Great Ocean Road Brewhouse are set to feature some of the most loved food vendors from previous years. You’ll find pleasure in the magnificently giant paella pans, fish tacos, cocktails and craft beer as you dance to live performances by some of Victoria’s greatest bands. We can’t reveal who just yet, but we promise you they’ll have you up on your feet instantly.

Seafood lovers can also settle down on the deck of the Apollo Bay Fisherman’s Coop and take in the picturesque views while taking advantage of the delicious seafood feast. Crack into southern rock lobster and sip on the finest local wine, as one of the best headlines bands is booked to entertain you. Get keen, because this will surely be a must-see!

Across the months, seafood enthusiasts will also have the chance to engage with informative panel discussions with fishermen, scientists, chefs and indigenous knowledge keepers who will explore the pressing issues affecting our oceans and land.

A weekly seafood market will be placing fresh produce caught by local fishermen straight into your hands, whilst BBQ’s will also be popping up to exhibit how to best prepare and eat underutilised seafood.

For the first time ever, the festival is giving you the chance to and show off your skills at their first-ever annual ‘Fish of the Summer’ fishing competition!

It’s been a tough year for everyone so while you’re there why not show your support to local restaurants too, including La Bimba, Casalingo Chris’s Beacon Point & Villas as the festival celebrates their sensational food with a number of epic seafood specials and meal deals.

You can register on the Festival website to stay in loop and be notified when tickets and further information are released.
