Leah Senior’s first album, Summer’s on the Ground, was released in late 2015 following a chance encounter with the King Gizzard crew and a signing to their Flightless label. The Melbourne folk diviner has followed that with Pretty Faces which, according to her website, “pays homage to her dark roots while hinting at pop and psychedelic undertones”.
Now she’ll be performing at The Sound Doctor’s final gig for the year, alongside special guest Forever Son (Jack Robbins), for a gig that’s putting folk music centre stage at Anglesea Memorial Hall before heading off around the country as part of the Gizz Fest line-up.
We have a quick chat to Leah ahead of her gig.
What are you working on right now?
Depends on the day. At the moment mostly playing classical piano and writing bad lyrics.
Favourite thing about playing intimate gigs like Anglesea Hall?
They are my favourite kind of shows. I like intense silences and feeling close to the audience. I am extra excited for this one because I am playing with my good friend Jack (Forever Son). It’ll be nice getting to sing some songs together.
How did you get connected with King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard?
I met them one night playing a 4am football match….
What are you looking forward to about Gizz Fest?
Looking forward to spending time with friends and getting out of the city for a week and not having to organise anything.
What’s planned for 2018?
I never know what I am doing… Most likely I will do some home recording and maybe go on an adventure overseas and learn to solo on guitar.
