Do you like tequila?
It’s a question that perplexes some people. Some love it, some reserve it for 2am shots on a night out and some swear they only like it in their frozen margaritas.
I’ve always been a fan, but mainly for the theatre doing a shot with the lemon and salt. What can I say? It’s a fun shot to do! And yes, if I’m being honest, I really know nothing about it – other than it’s made from something called agave and that I can make a pretty great marg!
Quiz me on gin, and I know my stuff, but tequila knowledge has always eluded me. Delicious, but elusive.
But, whatever your feelings on tequila, Alisitos, and Jose Cuervo have a night that’ll teach you how to love it. And if you’re already a tequila-lover then we have a night that will grow that love deeper and deeper.
Coming up on Thursday 1st of July, Alisitos is hosting the ultimate tequila tasting night in partnership with the team from Jose Cuervo.
Keep up with the latest boozey events via our website.
Now, Jose Cuervo knows their tequila. Their reposado tequila featured in the first-ever margarita after all (side note: what a fun fact)!
And Alisitos knows their Mexican! Revered for their authentic Mexican flavours inspired by owner Anthony Gist’s upbringing in Southern California, Alisitos has quickly become a Torquay staple. Frequently taking trips down to Mexico in his childhood, Anthony wanted to bring those memories to the Surfcoast and boy, has he!
The Mexican street-food-inspired restaurant has carved quite the following in Torquay, with revellers loving the drinks, the tacos, and the incredible atmosphere that Anthony has created. And this event promises to highlight all of the best that Alisitos has to give!
“For the night we are bringing the team from Jose Cuervo to bring you an informative night covering all things tequila, from the distilling process to the different methods used to make each variety and flavours and tasting 6 different types/brands ‘Dobel, Gran Centanario, 1800’,” said Anthony Gist, owner of Alisitos.
Sign me up! I didn’t even know there were six types of tequila – clearly, I’ve got some learning to do.
Anthony says his favourite thing about tequila is “that it is one of the few spirits that is an upper and livens the party always, rather than having you crying in the corner,” said Anthony, adding that this night is about more than just downing shots.
“We would love to share the love for the quality of tequila they sell, and to take people’s perception past the 12 o’clock shots and hangovers,” said Anthony.
Kicking off at 6:30, the night will be full of fun, frivolity, and flavour. Not only will you spend the night tasting and learning about the unique distilling methods and profile flavours of six varieties of tequila, but each type will also be paired with a unique menu item.
The menu, which has been carefully and creatively curated by the Alisitos team is sure to deliver on flavour, freshness, and fun. Seriously, my mouth is watering at the thought of it.
Now, if there is anything I know about Alisitos it’s that they are incredible at creating atmospheres. I’ve had the incredible experience of dining at a similar event run by Anthony (he also owns Bird Rock and Roku Den!) and it was unbelievably delicious.
This is a fiesta that is sure to have your tastebuds tingling! Seriously unmissable for any fan of Mexican or tequila – add this one to your diaries!
Be sure to book your tickets here. At only $80 for six tequilas and six courses, it’s a total bargain!
