Pakington Street’s iconic Jamaican-style café is offering a convincing incentive to brave the cold with its cosy new rooftop bar.

Gracing Geelong’s revered foodie strip in August last year, Taste Jamaica was the result of a pivoted business model from Damian Rosevelt. Earning himself a strong reputation for serving traditional chicken, jerk pork, fine beer and Caribbean food products beneath a pop-up marquee across events in the region and Australia, the arrival of the pandemic brought his business to a halt, forcing Damian to adapt and bring his dreams of a café to life.

After months in the works, the café is all about offering Jamaican-style meals, alongside the sweetest of treats and Jamaica Blue Mountain Blend coffee, this contemporary café is bringing the Caribbean to you, with flavours transporting you to the lush topography of mountains, rainforests and reef-lined beaches of Jamaica with their meals and products.

Since opening the eatery has added a bounty of new flavours to the local foodie scene, alongside giving locals a vibrant new destination to relax and unwind with the addition of live music, dinner service, a liquor license and of course, the rooftop terrace bar.

Providing locals with a new place to watch the sun go down with a drink in hand, the fit-out is sympathetic to the business’s entire vibe, with colours of the Jamaican flag scattered throughout, touches of greenery, synthetic turf, relaxed lounge suites, reggae music, counter height bar stools and tables, bright festoon lighting, and TV screens for when the footy is on.

Of course, you’ll be able to order all their delicious food, from hearty meals like Jerk or fried Chicken, Jerk Pork ribs, BBQ wings, and a goat curry, fried Plantain and soup of the day, or keep it light with a selection of scrolls and cakes. There’s even traditional Jamaican rum cake, cocktails, Bob Marley shots, and coffee direct from the Caribbean nation.

And the best part is you don’t worry about the wind chill factor. The venue has put up a huge rooftop marquee with plenty of heaters to keep you toasty on those cooler winter days.

You can find Taste Jamaica and its blissful rooftop at 6/112 Pakington Street, Geelong West.
