A round of shots please, Beavs Bar is reopening their big red doors

This is not a drill!

We’ve missed you Beavs.

If you’re a Geelong local, Beavs Bar needs no explanation. That charming venue behind the big red door has been a favourite hangout for years now, and has become the go-to place to listen to some acoustic original singer-songwriters, chill out on the lounge having a drink with your mates or partake in a cheeky few rounds of karaoke on a Wednesday night.

With a fun atmosphere and eclectic fitout, there’s really nothing like Beavs anywhere else in town: a mishmash of coffee tables and couches, framed photos and artwork adorning the red walls; a string of shabby barbies hanging from the ceiling and a quality bar stacked with local craft beers and wines, along with an array of spirits to satisfy your needs.

It’s quirky and it has personality, and that’s why we like it.

If you’ve been missing it and all its quirks for the last eight months, then oh boy do we have some good news for you.

Taking to Instagram on Monday, the loved bar revealed they’d be reopening their doors this Wednesday, bringing nostalgia and live music back to the CBD Wednesday through to Saturday.

‘Wacky Wednesday’s’ will kick off each week’s festivities, thanks to Lukeys Open Mic Nights (LOMN). Pioneered by Surfcoast musician Lukey Luke, who has a passion for performance art, live music and entertainment, LOMN is designed to give amateur artists a place to hone their art and for more seasoned performers to try out new material in front of a live audience. Considering it’s been going strong for the last five years, it’s clear the region is loving it.

Teaming up with the Beavs crew, Lukey will be hosting the open mic nights every Wednesday for the next few weeks, and the lineup of talent is already looking huge.

Kicking off this Wednesday, we’ll see sets from the likes of Elandel, Haziel Armstrong, Jordan Powe, Tamara Tabb, while the weeks to follow will see Riordan, Geoff Pink, Jane Maya, Gaz’n’Jewels, Merri Winter, Stevie Burr, Ella Dean, among many others. Essentially, they’re 17-minute sets and spots are open to interested musos so if you’re keen to get behind the mic message the LOMN page. There will also be a regular touring muso taking to the stage, this week being Luke Biscan.

Thursdays are your new karaoke night alongside a performing musician (this week being Andy Forster), while Friday and Saturday will see the return of the weekend Beavs experience we all know and love – featuring shots and local musos to get us in the mood for a good time.

As for the punters, we don’t exactly know the specifics but we’re going to assume these will be seated sessions – so I guess it’s a good thing Beavs has a tonne of couches lining the venue!

The Wacky Wednesday event runs from 7pm to 10pm every Wednesday, kicking off this week December 2. From Wednesday through to Saturday the venue won’t be taking bookings after 7:30 and will operate on a first-in, first-served basis.

Keep your eyes peeled as we’re betting there’s going to be more to come from the Beavs camp.

You can find Beavs Bar at 77 Little Malop St, Geelong.
