A pop-up market is happening in Newtown this weekend, championing local creatives, artists and makers

Support local artists in the heart of an amazing art precinct within a historic woollen mill this weekend.

There are few better spots to wile away a winter Saturday than the river end of Newtown. With a particular focus on Rutland Street, the abundance of local businesses and creative spaces to explore is a satisfying respite from the rest of world, even for just a couple of hours.

Soak up the good vibes this weekend with The Space – Gallery + Workshops pop-up creatives market.

Stay up to date with what’s happening in and around the region here

A monthly event, courtesy of Mandy Dollery, the market will be showcasing the work of local creatives, artists and makers all in one centralised location.

Running on Saturday, July 16 from 10am to 2pm, you’ll find abstract art and upcycled clothing from Emipeli Design; original art and prints from Finchful; prints, cards and more from Heeeeres Johnnys Art; acrylic art and watercolour illustrations from Lucid Neptune; clay and resin jewellery from Monnie Moo Designs; crochet and illustrations from Studio Esther & Howl; handmade beaded jewellery from WooHoo Jewellery; original art and prints from Uncommon Art Aus; and works from Conny Fechner, a children’s author and illustrator.

Mandy, a local artist, opened The Space in the midst of the pandemic and between Victoria’s lockdowns with the intention of simply creating a place to sell her artwork and teach others, but also to support local artists by having a Guest Artist each month on the main wall.

It didn’t take long for Mandy to fully immerse herself in the art community and extend the gallery to have group exhibitions, larger workshops and even hire the room out for others wanting to hold their own workshops or meetings. What she has gifted the community now is an undeniable creative space with so much character here in the old Mill building.

Get down there early to stock up on the next generation of artists before strolling the calm cool spaces of Boom Gallery, indulging in a coffee and bagel at Brother Lawrence or shop beautiful indoor plants at As Daisy Does.

Find the market inside The Space – Gallery + Workshops at 17d Rutland Street, Newtown on Saturday, July 16 from 10am.
