Despite La Niña and her ongoing efforts to crush our good vibes as we emerge from lockdown, summer is here and there is no better time to release a whole bunch of events for us to get excited about.
One that we’re particularly intrigued by is the Summer Series at the Potato Shed, a new initiative from the City of Greater Geelong, designed to inject some energy into the Bellarine Peninsula over the summer.
Kicking off from January 7 2022, the inaugural summer series will feature an outdoor cinema, bar and live music and take over the grounds at the Potato Shed’s Outdoor Stage for three consecutive weeks until the end of the month.

The series will run for the entire weekend and include Friday Night Flicks; Live n’ Local Music Saturdays and Gigs for Kids on Sundays, ensuring there’s something for everyone this summer.
Taking over a dedicated grassed area within the venue on Friday nights, you can bet the outdoor cinema will be serving up some absolute cracking blockbusters, including Ghostbusters (Friday 7 January, PG) Ice Age (Friday 14 January, G) and Bohemian Rhapsody (Friday 21 January, M). The North Bellarine Film Festival will curate a special Potato Shed family-friendly program of festival shorts (Friday 28 January, G).
Bringing a unique outdoor cinema experience to Geelong locals, attendees are encouraged to BYO picnic and blanket, while popcorn, family-friendly drinks and snacks are available to purchase from the Potato Shed’s new outdoor bar. Tickets to the movies sit at $10 for adults, $8 for concession and $30 for a family ticket.
Saturday’s will see an impressive line-up of artists taking to the stage, kicking off with Geelong surf-rock band Mundane Jane and local support bands on Saturday, January 8, followed by Kate Daley on Saturday 15 January who will be singing the songs of Fleetwood Mac (as only Kate can do). She’ll be backed by her seven-piece band featuring local legends Andrew Cromwell, Karl Inderberg, Steve Hobbs, James Hunt, Shandelle Cooke, David Van Elst, and Julie Walter.
Potato Shed regular Damon Smith (Sunrising: the Songs that Made Memphis; Mental as Everything) will bring his mates to entertain on Saturday 22 January, when they’ll play the blues. The final music session on Saturday 29 January will end in a hail of glitter as Geelong superstars The Glitter Gang celebrate 30 years of their unique and enduring homage to the hits of the 70s.
Now Sundays, that’s a day dedicated to the young and young at heart. Dubbed ‘Gigs For Kids’, this part of the series will see The Mik Maks and Dazzling Dan the Magic Man entertain on Sunday 9 January, and Family Fund Day favourite Anna Lumb (Super Amazing Giant Girl) returns in her new show, Anna & Lisa present: Summer Circus Mix Tape! supported by Dazzling Dan the Magic Man Sunday 23 January 2021.
