A new full-on immersive and utterly terrifying horror escape room is opening in Geelong

First there was Mayhem Manor, and soon there will be Carnivorous.

If you’re looking for a terrifying new escape room that will mess with your head in ways no haunted house can, buckle up because we’ve got just the thing for you.

The crew at Geelong Containaphobia, the epic horror escape room business that opened back in 2020 who brought us the terrifyingly brilliant Mayhem Manor experience, are currently in the midst of pulling together their new offering, Carnivorous and it’s going to test even the bravest of souls out there.

Looking for more escape rooms? Here are our picks for 10 of Victoria’s best escape rooms.

If you’re new to the escape room trend, the concept is pretty simple: you and your mates enter a room and work together as a team to solve problems, work through puzzles and complete tasks to escape. It’s pretty fun (unless you’re claustrophobic) and it’s pretty cool if you’re looking for something new and exciting to do with your pals, or you’re ready to take your new beau on a unique date.

Rated a five out of five on the scare factor scale, Carnivorous is going to be a challenging room combining a gory and bloody, movie-quality setting, a threatening atmosphere and gameplay that feeds the fear of escaping players.

The live puzzle will see four participants put their heads together for 60 minutes of hair-raising fun and death-defying horror. The aim of this one is to escape the basement before a crazed serious killer returns. Our bodies are already covered in goosebumps.

“It’s 3am. You wake up in a dark moist basement, your sight is blurry, you hear your friends whimpering in the background, you feel a warm fetid breath of air on your face. All your worst nightmares have come true! You are being hunted by a crazed serial killer who plays with his victims, drives them insane and gives them hope that they can escape,” the website description reads.

“No-one has ever escaped! Can you rally your friends, crack the code and escape the basement before the killer returns? It will take all your skills, ingenuity and strength to keep going and not give up.

“Do you have what it takes to escape a deranged serial killer?”

More than a challenge, this horror escape room questions your sanity, shocks, scares, and entertains as you try to unravel the mystery and face your worst nightmares. And when we say worst nightmares, we mean it.

Since opening, their first room (Mayhem Manor) has garnered a slew of amazing responses with literally no less than a 5/5 rating on TripAdvisor with participants hailing it one of the best, immersive and well-designed escape rooms ever created.

“Absolutely gobsmacked! This escape room was the most amazing, well thought out escape room I have ever played,” read one review. “By far the best in Victoria. Full of surprises and twists with every puzzle I was fully immersed in every second of the game. From the second we pulled up we were playing the game guessing whether we were in the right location with the spooky but amazing external representation of Containaphobia. Ben the host did an outstanding job and we cannot wait to return for the next escape room. Cannot recommend this experience enough!”

It was also hailed an insane experience, setting a new standard in escape rooms across the nation from another reviewer who has experienced more escape room that you’d think possible.

“Having played [more than] 140 escape rooms this is easily by far in my top 5. Even before the moment you rock up to the ominous blue door, you’re already playing,” they said.

“Not many escape experiences/games can seem to break through the feelings of “ah its just an escape room” but this one had me questioning at times if the fear I was feeling was real! The way the creator has made these rooms is above and beyond 99% of other rooms I have played. The sheer ingenuity and the way all props are seamlessly integrated into the environment, not only that but the puzzle design makes you feel like a genius when you solve them.”

The best part is that Mahem Manor was only rated two out of five on the scare factor scale, and after trying our hand at the room, we can assure you, the next one is going to be a truly intense experience.

Probably not for the faint-hearted and sorry kids, this will be 18+.

While we don’t have a date on the opening as yet, trust we’ll let you all know. Until then, book an experience at the Mayhem Manor here.
