A local tradie is slinging free coffee after losing work through the pandemic

Words by Talia Rinaldo

Ballarat, this one’s for you.

Setting up a handmade takeaway coffee stand in Black Hill, Ballarat tradie Martin Anderson has spent the week brewing up free coffee for locals after losing work during the pandemic.

“Everybody is doing it f__king tough atm,” he said in a post to social media.

“It was great to have a bit of a laugh with those who stopped past to grab their free takeaway coffee. Masks on, social distanced but we were still able to have quick chat and a joke.”

Not only is the absolute legend giving out free coffee and injecting some much-needed positive vibes into the world, but he’s also donating any money received to Moondreamz, an initiative set up to raise funds and awareness for children with brain related diseases.

The charity, which is founded by Ballarat local Tim Brayshaw, directly supports The Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) Neurology Department, with dollars raised investing in the brightest medical minds, research and the latest equipment and technology to support neurology patients and their families.

After having his own experienced with brain surgery, the charity is especially close to Marty’s heart.

“I enjoy doing this kind of thing, because I’m doing something I enjoy,” he said in a video made by Aussie Radio Host & Digital Creator Ryan Jon.

“Last year I had a shocking time, so the people have been amazing. I’m giving away free coffee but getting more money than I would be if I was selling them for this kind of thing. The community spirit is f**king amazing.”

Even the local suppliers are getting around the cause, with milk being donated from Inglenook Dairy and coffee beans from Mount Buninyong Karon Farm Coffee.

What a great cause! If you’re in Ballarat and keen for a coffee, drop by Sim Street in Black Hill.

We need more humans like Marty (and Tim) in the world.
