A huge sleepout is happening in Geelong this year, raising money and awareness for homelessness

Vinnies Sleepouts give you a glimpse into the realities of homelessness by ‘sleeping rough’ for a night to raise awareness and funds for Vinnies homelessness services.

After two years online, Vinnies Sleepouts are back in 2022 for what organisers are hoping will be the best event in Geelong yet!

Vinnies Sleepouts is all about giving participants a glimpse into the realities of homelessness by ‘sleeping rough’ for a night to raise awareness and funds for Vinnies homelessness services. This experience challenges your sense of home and offers unique insights into the complex issues faced by people experiencing homelessness.

Previously organised for community groups, this year the Vinnies Community Sleepout is welcoming every single person in the local community to the event. Whether you’re a business, sports group, student, family or individual, you’re invited to sleep rough and raise important funds and awareness for the most vulnerable people in our local communities.

The community sleepout will happen at Deakin University’s John Hay Courtyard at the Geelong Waterfront Campus on Friday, August 19. Starting at 6pm, participants will sleep over out in the cold until 7am on Saturday, August 20.

The money you raise will go towards Vinnies’ local, volunteer-run community services which allow Vinnies to keep a roof over people’s heads, put food on the table and keep the lights on for many people in the Geelong region.

This event builds on the ever-popular Vinnies CEO Sleepout held each year, where hundreds of CEOs, business owners as well as community and government leaders sleep outdoors to support the many Australians who are experiencing homelessness. In 2021, the Vinnies CEO Sleepout raised over $9.3 million for people experiencing homelessness and people at risk of homelessness.

Please note, a parent or guardian must be present for people under the age of 18.
