The giant box is bringing live music to the streets of Ballarat every Thursday, Friday and Saturday until April.
After the disruption caused by the pandemic, finding new ways to bring music back to the city and give local musicians a platform — while still abiding by restrictions — has been at the forefront of the City of Ballarat’s summer plans.
Going above and beyond to showcase regional Victoria’s burgeoning music scene, a giant boom box has popped up in the city centre, bringing free live music to the streets of Ballarat.
Dubbed the ‘Ballarat Boom Box’, the pop-up gigantic cube hosts a series of free performances in various locations, kicking off earlier this month.

From January to February, the boom box is sitting pretty in Sturt Street, while February to March will see it moved to another location in the regional city, yet to be revealed. From March to April, the boom box will then move to Alfred Deakin Place, behind the Art Gallery of Ballarat.
Within the oversized boom box, local musicians will pump out the tunes every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 5pm until 8pm.
From rock’n’roll to RnB, there is something for all tastes in this free series of performances thanks to the programming by the amazing Lachlan Anderson and Kate Berry. So far the boom box has hosted performances from the likes of GBOMM, Moonlover, Jordan Cassells, and Sweat Dreams DJs
The next few sessions will host the likes of Lachnes, Macy Rose, Chapel, Johnny Driver, Sweat Dreams DJs again, Esoteric, Quality Time, Marc Oswin, and Anna Wright, with more to be announced soon.
