A Geelong cafe is hosting a gourmet sausage sizzle this weekend to bring some joy to locals in lockdown

Your weekend snag tradition is about to be restored.

While our hair grows long, our pets become sick of us, and we continue to forget that people can’t see us smiling at them behind our masks as we pass in the street, there’s one humble but well-known tradition that has truly left a hole in our hearts this lockdown: the Bunnings sausage sizzle.

And while we can’t make a beeline for your closest Bunnings and down a snag in bread right now, one local cafe is changing the takeaway game and perking up the community morale in a time we need it most with a gourmet sausage sizzle.

The key takeaways

  • Soul Geelong is hosting a sausage sizzle this weekend
  • The socially-distanced sizzle will be slinging sausages and burger patties
  • The cafe will also have takeaway coffee, beer, wine and non-alcoholic drinks available

Keep up with the latest food and booze news via our website.

Located in Newcomb, Soul Geelong is a wholesome cafe and gourmet grocer passionate about being sustainable and supporting local business, stocking 95 per cent of the store with Victorian products that will make cooking a dream.

Under the helm of local Madelin Stone, the cafe will be running the anticipated sausage sizzle this Saturday from 11am to 1pm, for anyone within a 5km radius. The sausage sizzle will be completely takeaway and socially distanced (no congregating people!), with masks and QR codes enforced.

They’ll be slinging local handmade gourmet sausages in fresh white bread with an option of onion, plus there will also be gourmet burger patties from the local butcher on offer in buttermilk buns with homemade coleslaw and cheese.

Sounds like the perfect lockdown lunch to me.

The cafe will also have takeaway coffee, beer, wine and non-alcoholic drinks available, all sourced from local suppliers.

While you’re there, save yourself a trip to the supermarket and stock up on local goodies and supplies to get yourself through the weekend in iso. You’ll find the best bits from Salt Kitchen, Castlemaine Dips, Lighthouse olive oil, Joneseys Dairy, Ket Baker, Otway Pasta Company, Tao Tonics, Milawa Cheese, Grace and Marie candles and Caravan Eggs, just to name a few. You’ll also find a range of charcuterie, wine, Kombucha, cupcakes, cold-pressed juice and even gin mayo. Of course, Soul wouldn’t be what it is today without Madelin’s own range of products, including sprays, rollers, bath salts and more – all of which you’ll find in store too.

Find Soul Geelong at 58 Charles Street, Newcomb.
