A fiery, free Winter Solstice festival is setting Frankston ablaze this weekend

Bursting with colour, this interactive and enigmatic family festival is set to transform Frankston's Long Island into a fiery Winter Solstice celebration.

Unlike anything that Frankston as ever seen, this free, family-friendly event will take place over two fire-filled days – on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26. At the culmination of each night, a jaw-dropping giant wooden sculpture by artist Christian Patton will be set ablaze.

The longest night of the year, it marks the beginning of lengthening days and shortening nights.

The highlight of FIRE NIGHT FRANKSTON is the burning of Melbourne-based artist Christian Patton’s giant wooden sculpture. With roving performers, kids’ activities, fire breathers and drummers, the festival is one of warmth, celebration and theatricality.

Indulge in wintery comfort foods like 18-hour beef brisket, slow-cooked chicken, beef short ribs and pulled pork, all grilled over a hot charcoal BBQ. With over 15 food trucks offering a range of tasty snacks and meals, they’re also offering local beers, mulled wine, wood fire pizza and hot chocolate.
