Popcultcha are launching a new Collector Gallery

Popcultcha has long been Geelong’s hangout for the coolest gear in music, video, games, TV and film. The Geelong-based family business are opening a new Collector Gallery in North Geelong, taking another step forward in a long history for the business.

Originally opening back in 1993 as “Card Mania”, the business has been going strong for the past 24 years, staying both family-owned and Geelong-based. However, over the past few years Popcultcha have been running out of space on their shelves, leading to a number of marvellous products sitting in cardboard boxes in storage.

As a result, the team have decided to launch the Collector Gallery – an opportunity to show off all these statues and other items, and to provide a unique experience for attendees. Everything shown in the gallery will also be for sale, with attendees being able to peruse the items and decide on their favourites before arranging to buy any products with the friendly staff, who will then have them couriered to the customers home cost free.

In typical Popcultcha style, the Collector Gallery’s opening day will be one big, family-friendly party. The Gallery doors will officially open on Saturday December 2 at 9am, showcasing a huge range of statues, replicas, designer toys, framed art, books and comics. From 11am, the festivities will officially begin with kids activities until 3pm – when the live music will take over.

There will be an outdoor stage with original bands including Grindhouse, Dukes of Deliciousness, Tom Stevenson Band, Sheriff, The Mojo Corner, Stone Mocean and The Red Men performing through until 11pm.

Food will be available for purchase from neighbours The Federal who will be putting on an outdoor grill and two outdoors bars by Prickly Moses and Asahi. There will also be a raffle prizes and a jumping castle!

Featuring fun activities, food, live music and a taste of what Popcultcha is all about, Popcultcha director, Ash Howard explains the new space will allow the business to showcase the collectables in a gallery style format. “This gallery space is truly dedicated to the “collector” of art and pop culture in all forms. It will be a unique one-of-a-kind space that has not been done in such a scale anywhere in Australia or beyond,” he says.

Howard is most excited about the mix of people who will be present on the opening day; hoping for “a diverse mix of music lovers, art lovers and toy nerds who will all find something to love at this event and hopefully some will even find something to take home.”

This new chapter in the company’s book will be about exploring what the family loves; rock and roll, cosplay, and perhaps most importantly having a good time.

When & Where: Federal Mills Park, North Geelong – Saturday December 2 (Free Entry)
