Words by staff writer

It's not just about the Bertie Beetle showbags and bumper cars, the Royal Geelong Show is an age-old tradition celebrating 170 years.

As the years have passed, the excitement of the Royal Geelong Show has remained unwavering.

From the eyes of a child, the Royal Geelong Show is a wonder, colourful with possibility. Sky-climbing toy walls for winning through favourite games the moving clown heads, the water-gun challenge and diving for ducks tower above. The flashing lights and hyper-sirens of the rides pierce through the corridors of people, as screams of ecstasy echo across the open spaces. Showbags paint the aisles with the best selections of chocolate, lollies and toys. Fairy floss and ice cones offer a sugar rush. Animals of all shapes, sizes and smells are on display. Thrilling entertainment takes over the main arena in the form of Monster Trucks and motorbikes, and the day is all topped off with a spectacular display of fireworks.

For teenagers, the Royal Geelong Show is an adrenaline adventure of epic proportions. It’s a space to take on the most terrifying, twisting and turning rides, where laughter with friends is a non-negotiable. From the bumper cars to the rollercoasters, the all-time-favourite the Scorpion, to the scary haunted houses, the Royal Geelong Show poses as a theme park experience. Fuelled by carnival food and the frenzy of the friends, rides and music, the Royal Geelong Show is a core memory maker.

For the adult, the Royal Geelong Show is an agricultural haven, delightful with trade sites, cooking demonstrations, competitions, business displays and culinary favourites. It’s a chance to soak up the sun, exploring the best the community has to produce, whilst also reeling from the spectacular entertainment offering.

The Royal Geelong Show grows with its audience and this year they have outdone themselves on the full-family offering.
