The Victorian government is enhancing opportunities to explore the picturesque Bellarine coastline with a new shared walking and cycling path at Beacon Point Reserve.
Minister for Regional Development Gayle Tierney visited Clifton Springs alongside local MP Alison Marchant to officially open the trail, which is backed by a $284,000 investment from the government. Tierney expressed pride in investing in projects that highlight the natural beauty of the region, stating, “We’re proud to be investing in projects that capitalise on the natural beauty of some of our most-loved open spaces, encouraging more people to come and enjoy all the Bellarine has to offer.”
Additional investments on the Bellarine Peninsula include
- $124,000 for upgrades to the St Leonards Memorial Hall
- $21,000 for works at the Portarlington Bayside Miniature Railway
- $50,000 for refurbishments to the Queenscliffe Maritime Museum

The new trail is the first of its kind at Beacon Point Reserve, which previously lacked formal walking tracks or paths. It now caters to walkers, cyclists, and sightseers, offering spectacular views across Corio Bay and boosting visitation opportunities for the region. Approximately 800 metres of shared trail has been constructed from the existing beach access point along the foreshore, complemented by new signage, trail information, accessible park furniture, and revegetation of native plant species.
This project has transformed Beacon Point Reserve, which was underused due to a lack of formal pathways and limited access points. The shared trail was funded and delivered in partnership with the City of Greater Geelong, employing local subcontractors. Marchant noted the significance of the trail, stating, “This new trail will make it easier for locals and visitors alike to explore the beautiful Bellarine coastline, while also supporting local jobs and enhancing our region’s natural attractions.”
Since 2014, the Victorian government has invested a record $45 billion in projects and programs to enhance regional and rural Victorian cities and towns. These investments aim to create more job opportunities, improve infrastructure, and attract visitors. City of Greater Geelong Acting CEO Troy Edwards expressed appreciation for the government’s efforts: “Thank you to the Victorian Government for its investment in the new Beacon Point trail and other projects on the Bellarine Peninsula. Beacon Point is a beautiful part of our region that is now more accessible for the local community and visitors to enjoy.”
