Footy, food and music, what more do you need?!
Well, the AFL Grand Final is upon us – this weekend the mighty Geelong Football Club take on that other mob… I think it’s Richmond or something.
Anyways, to help set the mood for grand final day, we have been lucky enough to speak to three Geelong Cats legends, who have sent in their top ten tunes to help set the mood for the day ahead – funnily enough, Meatloaf didn’t make the cut!
FOOTY & MUSIC!
Tunes from David Wojcinski
If you had quick enough eyeballs you could sometimes make out the number 40 across the back of one of the true lightning bolters of the AFL. The Cats speedster known as ‘Bomber’ broke lines, hunted down his opponents and was a key component to the three premierships he played in! And what are the beats that drive this man I hear you say?
“We Need more footy and music to crossover I reckon! Here’s what I’ve come up with.
“It’s not my Top 10 but it’s 10 Top songs that fire me up! Can’t wait for the game, it’s gonna be a cracker!”
You can listen to David’s playlist here.
Tunes from Shannon Byrnes
Shannon Byrnes. Our personal favourite No 17 is a dual premiership player, having won with the Cats in 2007 & 2009. Playing 108 games in the hoops – Byrnesy was a lively little goal sneak, quick, dangerous & and known for his sharp wit – which brings us to Shannon’s top 10 tunes! Check them out below!
“This was a much harder task then I realised… Had way too many songs. So I’ve put in 9 tunes….and 1 guilty pleasure” – what a legend.
– Tonight, Tonight – Smashing Pumpkins
– Lucky Man – the Verve
– Otherside – Chilli Peppers
– Fans – Kings of Leon
– Flake – Jack Johnson
– Take It Easy – The Eagles
– Have You Ever Seen The Rain – Creedence Clearwater Revival
– You Shook Me All Night Long – AC/DC
– Joker and the Thief – Wolfmother
And my guilty pleasure – ‘Pure Shores’ by All Saints.
“I thought a 90’s girlband curve ball would raise a few eyebrows! Let’s hope the Cats can salute this weekend!”
Tunes from Bec Goring
Wearing the number 44 in defence for the Mighty AFLW Cats side, Bec has not only Captained the mighty Geelong Footy Club, but when she’s not ripping it up on the track, Bec is an incredible incredible singer songwriter… and pretty damn handy on the guitar too I might add. Could there be a better crossover between footy and music? We think not! Bec has been kind enough to share her play list with us – and there are some absolute rippers! Check em out, and make sure you check out Bec’s tunes on all good streaming platforms too!
“I would love to share my top 10 tracks with you all! Go Cats!”
You can listen to Bec’s playlist here.
FOOD!
This year’s grand final is a little different, in sooo many ways… but one thing will always be the same, cracking an ice cold beer – and getting a good footy feed on! And boy do we have some ideas for you!
Our good pals over at Burger Plus and Splatters Platters are ready to look after all your grazing needs!

Providing a mix of sweet and savory elements and a variety of textures coming together, Splatter cheese platters (a splatterbox!) have a little something for everyone and are made on the day – meaning you can say goodbye to your portable coolers, and hello to a decadent platter of locally sourced and international cheeses.

BOOZE!
While it’s usually an ice-cold beer you associate with the football (and for good reason), we’ve found one local spirit you should definitely get around for this year’s Grand Final.
Anther Distillery
Geelong’s newest and soon to be opened, Anther Distillery in Federal Mills is the home of the multi awarded Australia’s Best Gin (2018, 2019). Headed by local Geelong residents (Dervilla McGowan and Sebastian Reaburn) with global recognition and awards, they’re proud to build their Anther Distillery in their home town of Geelong.
To celebrate the finals, Anther Distillery is offering home delivery for Geelong residents in time for Grand Final Day for all orders placed before COB Friday 23rd! Order your bottled cocktails and Anther Gins from Geelong’s newest distillery at www.anther.com.au
Fun fact, their newly released Anther Corpse Reviver No. Blue bottled cocktail is yeap, you guessed it BLUE, and a perfect way to celebrate our cats in the finals. Created by good friend and mentor Jacob Briars, this cocktail was all about creating something to make people smile, because the most important thing is always, and always will be, the customer.
These are best chilled, poured over ice, stirred and enjoyed with a wedge of citrus for an extra kick.

Collaborating with local winery Leura Park, the distillery has also created a pretty epic French 75 bottled cocktail pack, perfect if you’re in the mood for a bubbly tipple and makes about six cocktails (and who wants to worry about running out of alcohol when the GF is on!?). For just $60, you get 250ml Anther French 75 Elixir and 750ml Luera Park Estate Vintage Grande Cuvee 2017 that you just need to chill and serve!
Find all this and more at the Anther website.
Well that should just about cover it! Now sit down, put on some tunes, order a cocktail, stuff your face with a burger and a platter… and cheer on those mighty cats!
