It’s International Cheeseburger Day, here are some spots to get a good one

It's burger o'clock.

One of our favourites things in this world is getting your hands wrapped around a super cheesy cheeseburger, making a mess and finishing the last piece with sticky fingers and a full stomach. Is there anything better? No, no there’s not… And there’s no better day than the international cheeseburger day on September 18 to do just that.

Here are some places in the region to do just that.

Please note, due to the current dine-in limitations, you might have to stick to takeaway for this one.

Boss Burger
For those who love a greasy, meaty, cheese-filled, dripping with delicious-goodness burger, Boss Burger Co. has long been a favourite around town. Known for their customisable burgers (think mac & cheese balls and double bacon), the joint kicks ass with their offerings of chicken and beef burgers.
But in honour of the day, we recommend trying your hand with the ‘Boss’ or the ‘Boss Deluxe’ is a taste of heaven if you like it simple but delicious. Beef, cheese, tomato, pickles, ketchup and boss sauce… simplicity doesn’t get much better than that.

Boss Burger has locations in Waurn Ponds, Geelong West, Leopold, Torquay, Ballarat, and Colac. You can order direct from all locations and through Deliveroo and EatAppy at select locations. Visit the website for specific store details.

Grill’d
There has been a rise in the quality and popularity of the humble burger over the past couple of years. This new wave of burgers is taking over, and one place that consistently delivers is Grill’d – the prevalent chain restaurant specialising in healthy burgers. Grill’d offer a range of mouth-watering fresh, flame-grilled chicken breast, beef, Wagyu, lamb and plant-based burgers which incorporate non-traditional quality toppings such as cranberry sauce, roasted capsicum, brie cheese and avocado – yum! For their take on a cheeseburger, we would say the Simply Grill’d comes pretty close but you have to add the cheese (what kind of burger doesn’t have cheese anyway), or the crispy bacon and cheese looks pretty damn good, with grass-fed beef pattie with crispy bacon, tasty cheese, cos lettuce, tomato, Spanish onion, relish and herbed mayo.

Located in Waurn Ponds Shopping Centre and open from 10:30am or visit the website and place your order there.

Hop Temple Ballarat
If you feel like stepping it up for the grand cheeseburger day, Hop Temple have a pretty delish Hop Burger on offer. Packed with beef, caramelised onion, bacon, cheese, house pickles, mustard and tomato sauce… this burger is a cheeseburger of steroids.

Located at 24 Armstrong Street North, Ballarat.

Mulita BBQ
If you’re craving the best of American cooking with a touch of Mexican flavours, Mulita BBQ have insanely delicious burgers. If you’re heading to the store, you’ll be able to pick up their double bacon cheeseburger, complete with American cheddar, crisp bacon, barbecue sauce, mustard, white onion and pickles; or their deluxe cheeseburger with stacks a ground brisket blend pattie, American cheddar, white onion, pickles, mustard and burger mayo.

They’ve also got a range of other delicious burgers available for takeaway and delivery, including the Black Angus brisket, the BBQ Pork Burger, the Nashville Hot Chicken, and a Smoked Mushroom burger, all for less than $19. So, who’s shout?

You can pick up from 5pm or order online via Deliveroo and UberEats.

Pistol Pete’s
If you are craving a burger from the Southern States, minus the travel fare, Pistol Pete’s have you covered for international cheeseburger day – especially with their triple cheeseburger! Jammed with three beef patties, cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onion and BBQ sauce, this burger is the best of the best. If you’re looking for something more subtle, we suggest the Lil Ole Cheese Burger with a 125g Beef patty, double cheese, ketchup, American mustard and mayo.
To take your taste buds directly to the Southern States, call 5221 0287. Open for pick-up, delivery and limited dine-in at 93A Little Malop Street, Geelong.

Piping Hot Chicken Shop
There’s just something special about these burgers down on the coast. If you’ve got a hankering for chicken, there’s tonnes of options but it’s the cheeseburger that’s earned them their inclusion on this list, the bacon cheeseburger to be precise. This one is a toasted Brioche Bun loaded with a grilled beef burger, double cheese, double bacon, onion, pickles, sauce, mustard, and aioli. Too good!
Located at 63A The Terrace, Ocean Grove.

Burger Plus
Probably in contention for the best burgers in Australia (they’ve already taken out the vote for best burger in Geelong), the team at Burger Plus has got this down to a fine art so you can rest easy ordering from here. Serving up the finest ground beef burgers (from your plain and simple to your double beef or chorizo beef creations), chicken schnitzel burgers, pulled-pork burgers, and even juicy vegan and veggie burgers that have you licking your fingers for days, there’s something on the menu to suit every tastebud… including the cheesy ones!

Burger Plus is located at 14A Mercer Street, Geelong. Call 52002816 to place your order, or you can order via UberEats, MenuLog and Deliveroo.

Blackman’s Burger Bar Ocean Grove
When beers and burgers come together it’s always an epic time, especially when it’s in an epic location on the main street of Ocean Grove. There’s a few options to choose from but there’s two that rival the great cheeseburger, including The Blackman with beef, bacon, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, American cheddar and house mac sauce; or Big Poppa which takes it up a notch with double beef and double bacon. Team this up with a tin of Lager and you’ve got yourself an epic feast on your hands!

Located at 82 The Terrace, Ocean Grove.

Griffin Burger
Good news for those of you in Ballarat. At Griffin Burger you can wrap your hands around the cheese burger, with the option to make it a double or even a triple; or try the super cheese burger – complete with beef patty, American cheddar, bacon, caramelized onion, tomato, pickles, American mustard, tomato ketchup and mayonnaise. Mmm, delicious.

Located at 20 Armstrong Street North, Ballarat.

Workers Barbecue
While the smoked meats are their forte (seriously, try them), these guys can whip up a mean burger. Having pivoting to takeaway and delivery since the pandemic, the Workers team have been slinging juicy, stacked creations and satisfying our hunger cravings and undying affection for meat in a bun for the past few months and it has been glorious. Today though we suggest you hook into the philly cheese beef burger, or the classic cheese burger, both served with a side of crisps and pickles.

Workers Barbecue is located at 90 Little Malop Street, Geelong and open for delivery and takeaway 5pm-8:30pm.

Burger Inc
While there’s been a serious burger explosion for all the foodies (seriously, just look at this list) Geelong’s Burger Inc have been making great burgers well and truly before the new fad kicked in. With 17 beef burgers, 17 chicken burgers, and 4 veggie burgers, there’s no way we could list them all here, but the one you need to know is the Number One Cheeseburger. With cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion – relish and special sauce.

You can find them at Shop 1/328 Pakington Street in Newtown.
