Hear from one of Australia’s best-known digital entrepreneurs.
With Geelong home to some of the most creative, innovative and thriving small businesses who are currently navigating through uncertain times, there’s never been a more important time to focus on the little guys that are shaping our culture and community.
With so much to offer in the way of small businesses, with creative, innovative and motivated minds aplenty, the upcoming Geelong Small Business Festival aims to support and inspire these minds even further, providing an important opportunity for businesses to come together, learn from industry experts and build their networks.
Delivered by the City of Greater Geelong in partnership with the State Government, this year’s Geelong Small Business Festival will be going fully digital this time, but that hasn’t hamstrung their ingenuity.
Going down from September 1-18, the festival will be offering a range of practical and innovative events that cover topics such as business essentials post COVID-19; marketing, social media and promoting your business online; starting a business; growing your business, sales and expanding your networks; career development, leading and managing people; and health and wellbeing.
This year’s festival has gone to incredible lengths to deliver a wide-spanning, adventurous program that sits safely within the current restrictions, especially with the addition of Mia Freedman, one of Australia’s best-known digital entrepreneurs, who will share her experiencing of building a media empire from home.
For the uninitiated, Freedman is the co-founder and Chief Creative Officer of the Mamamia Women’s Media Company in Australia, a business created to make the world a better place for women and girls.
Following a decade of hard work, Mamamia has amassed an audience of more than five million women each month, and includes the largest women’s podcast network in the world with over 108 million listens and 36 different shows.
Since founding Mamamia as a blog in her lounge room in 2007 and becoming one of Australia’s best-known digital entrepreneurs, the former magazine editor has been named one of Australia’s 100 Most Influential Women by the Financial Review, has authored four books including the best-selling Work, Strife, Balance; currently hosts two award-winning podcasts; and supports multiple women’s charities – all while looking after three children and two dogs alongside her husband/Mamamia CEO.
What a woman. If there’s anyone we want to hear from right now, Mia Freedman is it. Better still, you can hear from her for free online on Thursday 3 September from 12:15pm, during the first week of the festival.
Outside of that, you’ll find 40 online events, most of which are low cost or completely free, designed to help small to medium business owners improve their productivity and learn from, network, and engage with other like-minded businesses and industry experts.
“We’re proud to present the tenth Geelong Small Business Festival in 2020. The festival will deliver a broad range of events to support and connect local business people, in a time when they may have felt more disconnected than ever,” says Cr Peter Murrihy, Deputy Co-Chair, Economic Development portfolio.
“The festival is an important part of council’s ongoing commitment to supporting the 18,000 small businesses in Greater Geelong, as they play a key role in our region’s economic growth and success.”
