3350 Street Party is heading for Ballarat this month

Karova Lounge are known for throwing some pretty decent parties over the years, more than a decade’s worth, and this month they’ll perhaps throw their biggest yet as they take things to the street with the return of Yacht Club DJs.

The duo, who are Ballarat locals, announced their end back in 2014 via Facebook to broken-hearted fans stating, “It’s been an unbelievable ride, but we both feel like it’s time to put our focus on to other endeavours.” Having respectively dipped their toes in other projects, the duo of Guy Chappell and Gaz Harrison are back for another round (for how many we are not sure) and reform to perform at one of their favourite local haunts, Karova Lounge.

The ‘3350 Street Party’ is set to go down on December 17, kicking off at 5pm and into the early hours of the morning. There’ll be three stages, three bars and ample food to keep you kickin’ all night long. Lord knows you’ll need it with Yacht Club behind the deck. Lined up on the bill (aside from the reforming headliners) are rising talent Trillionayers, Hipster Kill Team, Ghost Chips, Gangz and Tsugnarly.

As for Trillionayers, another pat on the back for Ballarat in producing a killer band. Having released the single ‘Alive’ earlier this year they’ve already been getting heaps of praise from triple j with Dave Ruby Howe stating he was “super impressed by this really large sound”. We are too Dave. With regular appearances at Karova Lounge in Ballarat, the three piece may seem new on the scene but they actually consist of members from Bel Air, Horris Green, Junipers, Gangz and Good Will Hunting. Their sound is hard to peg, with equal parts shoegaze, rock and indie. The band are big on sound, even bigger on tempo change and on hazy soaring vocals.

Each band on the bill is deserving of their slot, and a testament to the talent in regional Vic. Us rural folk ain’t so bad.

Tickets are available here.

Five memorable moments of Yacht Club DJs.

1. The DJ set at Meredith in ’08 after MGMT that started it all for the duo. Bless the ‘sup for this creation.

2. Warming up for Miami Horror, which saw a return to the heydey of the duo.

3. Throwing The Lion King’s ‘I Just Can’t Wait to be King’ in a set back in 2009. You just can’t get anything better.

4. The long-running series of free mixtapes. Because we love everything free, especially when it comes from the minds of Guy Chappell and Gaz Harrison. A highlight is ‘Oddity Number 5’ where they cross Outkast’s ‘Ms. Jackson’ with John Cougar Mellencamp’s ‘Jack And Diane’. Oh, and the theme from Captain Planet gets a feature too. We told you it was perfect.

5. The bittersweet farewell following the duos “unbelievable ride”, which also meant for some killer shows across the country. Particularly THAT show in Ballarat.

When & Where: 5-11pm, Saturday, December 17 – Karova street entrance, Ballarat
