10th Annual Maitreya Festival In Jeopardy

The future of the popular Maitreya Festival scheduled for next month is in jeopardy after the promoter’s permit for the festival was denied by Buloke Shire Council for failing to provide the necessary details.

The council is disappointed to decline Lachlan Bell’s permit to run the festival, though without the adequate planning permits, emergency and traffic plans and liquor licensing approval details they were forced to make the decision.

Maitreya Festival is a four-day camping arts, music and culture event loved by fans and sees thousands head to the regional town. This year would have been the fourth year the festival was located at Buloke Shire.

A petition has been created to try and secure the festival’s future as has a ‘Save Maitreya Festival 2016 – Let’s keep it at Wooroonook Lakes’ Facebook page.

While the festival’s likelihood of going ahead at the promoted site is highly unlikely, that’s not to say another site will come up to save the festival and ensure ticket holders aren’t left in the lurch. Stay tuned.

Maitreya Festival was scheduled for March 11-14 and had less than a couple thousand tickets remaining.
