The Drones: Feelin’ Kinda Free

If there’s one thing this album stands for, it’s swinging a massive fuck you to the need for albums and bands to be locked into a genre – and this release defies and all possible labels, The Drones have simply created their own with this seventh LP. Launching with ‘Private Execution’ it’s angry and distorted with the band muttering “I want a private execution” in growling tones. It’s a meaningful track so pay particular attention to the lyrics.

‘Taman Shud’ is the track you’ve heard by now on triple j, and it’s slightly more accessible in terms of the other tracks – no doubt why it ended up on triple j. It’s a track low on guitar but still manages to make things work with its stark instrumental and focus on vocals. Highlights on the album come with ‘Boredom’ and ‘Private Execution’ with each as different from the last. This is an album for those who don’t like to be locked into society’s measuring standards, like to release a bit of anger through their music and who are a bit political. Pick this one up, you won’t regret it.
