Meg Mac: Low Blows

Low Blows is Meg Mac’s debut album, following her highly successful EP MEGMAC. The album lives up to the hype – and proves it was worth the wait.

It’s an emotional album, fuelled by Meg Mac’s powerful voice. Despite the high level of emotions, the album features a number of songs that lead to subconscious toe tapping. The album was recorded in Fort Worth, Texas with the aim of being authentic – and it shows.

One of my favourite tracks is the closing track, ‘Morning’, where Mac’s voice is surrounded only by a piano and a layer of acoustic clapping. However other tracks feature some high-quality instrumentals that complement the vocals immensely.

This album stands out as is because of its instrumentals. While Mac could have been successful with an album that’s more “pop” and synthetic, it’s the authenticity of the instrumentals that really accentuate the emotions that Meg Mac’s vocals provide and help make the album the experience it is. The album seems like a perfect debut album as it encapsulates both the sense of emerging and the idea of growing up.
