Bendigo Pottery

With a reputation for making high quality ceramics since 1858, Bendigo Pottery has expanded the visitor experience at this historic site to include an extensive retail gallery, hands on activities, an antiques & collectables centre, artists’ galleries and a cafe.

You can watch a skilled potter at work or try your hand at this unique multi-generational experience, lessons run daily. And in the holidays you paint your own mugs, plates or bowls. Times and costs are on the website, www.bendigopottery.com.au

In the smaller studios individual artists include a sculpture workshop & gallery, glass artists, photographers, textiles, soy candles, teas, olive products and printmakers and a clock repair studio. Allow plenty of time for the Antiques & Collectables Centre with over 45 sites of antiques, vintage and retro decorating pieces and collectables.

Backspace Gallery

Backspace Gallery is a Ballarat City Council initiative designed to support local & regional artists by exhibiting quality contemporary visual art, design & craft.

Situated in the heart of the CBD Arts Precinct, Backspace Gallery is a fixture in the local arts scene credited with filling the need for an accessible  exhibition space celebrating the rich mix of arts practice. Upcoming shows include Reconnect: paintings & sculptures exploring identity in a new culture & place by the Indonesian artist Ismiadi; Strange Whispers:  prints & paintings by Anne Langdon, Bridget O’Leary & Fay Salmon; TreeART: a curated survey exhibition by 15 Trees’ Colleen Filippa; Four: photographs by recent graduates of the Melbourne School of Photography; and a significant retrospective of work by printmaker Val McCann.

Supported by Council, Backspace Gallery provides professionally-managed & appointed gallery space free of charge, as well as comprehensive marketing package supporting each exhibition. Clare Holder Graphic Design

Clare Holder is more than an illustrator and designer, she’s an all round artist. Promising custom art from portraits, watercolours and general design work, you will not be disappointed by her creations! Available for commissions, her website The Middle, showcases a small collection of her large portfolio – as well as giving you a peek of her immense talent. Clare’s watercolour works are vibrant and youthful, whilst her graphite illustrations – her speciality- have a seriousness that can only be pinpointed to capturing the full spectrum of human emotion- a talent which few artists possess! Geelong Art Society & the Shearer’s Arms Gallery

The Shearer’s Arms gallery, which dated back to 1847, was acquired by the Society in1987 and is now its base. It contains a large purpose built studio, four gallery display rooms, a well-equipped office and a kitchen. The building is the oldest surviving building in Geelong West and following an agenda from the Heritage Society is slowly being renovated. Various workshops, classes and exhibitions are run throughout the year. Coming up is a limestone carving workshop with Jacinta Leitch on May 21. The annual Bequest Exhibition will open from May 3-28 featuring artworks from many of the talented members of the art society.
