Victorian’s will finally allowed to get on the beers as Premier Daniel Andrews confirmed on Sunday that the state’s coronavirus restrictions will ease further from 11:59pm on 21 June.
“From next Monday, pubs and clubs will be able to host up to 50 seated patrons, with no requirement to purchase a meal with your drink, however you’ll need to give your contact details and table service restrictions will still apply,” Andrews said in a statement.
Standalone TABs will also be able to reopen in line with rules on retail businesses while TABs in pubs will need to observe density and patron limits that apply to those venues, while electronic gaming areas at pubs, clubs and the casino will be reopened from 20 July with strict distancing, cleaning and hygiene requirements.
Alongside the good news about the beers, cinemas, concert venues, theatres, auditoriums, galleries and museums have also been given the green light to open for up to 50 people, and the same number will be allowed at libraries, community centres, halls and religious ceremonies.
The rule of one customer per four-square-metre will still apply to all venues, and customers will still need to provide their contact information to venues in case of an outbreak.
As for sports and recreation news, Victoria’s ski slopes and ski accommodation will also reopen, gyms will allow up to 20 people per space with a cap of 10 people for group training, and sports training and games will recommence for those 18 and under, and no-contact spots will resume for all ages from June 22. Contact sports training will kick off again for those older than 18 from July 13, and games from July 20.
As for communal spaces at campsites and shared holiday accommodation, such as showers and kitchens, the Premier has indicated these will be open again “soon”.
All Victorians who can work from home are still advised to do so and timing on any future changes remains subject to the advice of the Chief Health Officer.
This latest announcement comes as the state announces nine new cases of coronavirus on Sunday morning.
