The Lost Ones Contemporary Art Gallery and Basement Bar

A commercial gallery that exhibits artworks from artists who pose thought-provoking ideas through their visual flair for studio crafted aesthetics, challenging the generic conventions of society. If you’re not a lover of controversial art, at least head down for a drink in the speakeasy bar in the basement.
Known for its heritage appeal, you’ll find The Lost Ones Contemporary Art Gallery in an 1870s-era Masonic temple in Ballarat. Immerse yourself in this architecturally magnificent space that exudes talent from artists in regional Victoria, wider Australia and internationally. The privately owned gallery thrives on showcasing high-quality works that invite creative activity, a hotspot for tourists and passionate art appreciators.
The Lost Ones Contemporary Art Gallery features works from established artists as well as emerging artists, promoting a wide-range of talents who employ varying artistic approaches, demonstrating authenticity and originality from Victoria and beyond. In addition to the must-see art, the bar is incentive enough to explore through the space and visit the town of Ballarat. The gallery also hosts poetry performances and plays, as well as fine dining experience with eclectic wines and spirits.
From the 6th of January through until the 18th of February, the gallery is hosting an exhibition titled Art + Body Politic. The exhibition has been inspired by the very recent and contentious same-sex marriage postal survey, in which the majority of Aussie’s decided YES, forcing federal parliament to pass the legislation, birthing the legalisation of marriage equality. The space will be a group show that exhibits artists who use their bodies to send a political message, or produce their works to proclaim a position on both personal and political grounds. The irony in the old saying that “politics should stay out of the bedroom,” when human-interest issues such as art, sex, gender, sexuality and love are frequently argued about in parliament house, has cultivated Art + Body Politic.
