An artist that is forever evolving and reshaping, ‘Silhouette’ is the latest release from Lee, lifted from his forthcoming sophomore album Conscience.
Highlighting a masterful storytelling ability, ‘Silhouette’ conveys the sorrow one feels upon when they realise they’ve become everything they hate. A captivating combination of sadness and yearning, Lee’s voice shimmers as it expresses the desperation to cut ties with his silhouette, preferring to stay in darkness to avoid it. “I found myself inspired and alone one morning early 2019 and began writing something sad and melancholic,” Lee explains. “Despite the electronic nature of Silhouette, this song was written acoustic and performed that way for months prior to it landing at the studio.
“I’m unsure what prompted me to write such downcast lyrics, I wasn’t experiencing anything at the time that would’ve inspired such a sombre theme. It kind of just emerged, as most of my songs do. Subconscious and intuitive.”
Innovative and meticulous when it comes to his craft, the melancholic, thoughtful ballad sees Lee embracing new lush, layered soundscapes and folding in elements of electronica and pop, highlighting his growth as an artist.
“Once we began testing it out in the studio, we felt its potential lay within realms I’d not really ventured before. We dove down a dark, electronic rabbit hole that had us using vocal chops, vocoders, DFAM’s and my Moog Matriarch, which was completely new for a song of mine. I’m thrilled we decided to follow our intuition on this one, and I’ll most definitely be delving further into this sonic landscape for future albums.”
Known for his aptitude to write songs that gently touch the heart, ‘Silhouette’ follows a steady string of recent releases and independent projects for Lee, including his 10-track debut album Philosophy.
