Melbourne Symphony Orchestra keeps the music going by live streaming performances

In response to the ban imposed by the Victorian State Government, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra has cancelled concerts between Monday 16 March and Monday 13 April.

The MSO, however, will keep the music going.

Kicking off last night, the MSO invited music lovers to join the orchestra on the MSO YOUTUBE CHANNEL to enjoy a free live stream of the performance of Scheherazade, and will be working to live stream additional performances over the coming weeks.

MSO Managing Director, Sophie Galaise said that during these uncertain times, we must keep the music going.

“It was a heartbreaking decision to cancel our upcoming performances, however ensuring the wellbeing of MSO audiences, musicians, staff – including those integral members employed on casual and contract bases – is our priority. As a not-for-profit organisation, we are committed to ensuring the longevity and sustainability of the MSO and will continue to support workers and musicians through this uncertain period.

“At the MSO, we have chosen to transform a big challenge into an opportunity and go forward with live streaming. This initiative to ‘Keep the Music Going’ ensures our musicians are playing and our audiences are engaged online. We are looking at new ways to perform and share our music until we are able to re-open our doors and welcome audiences back to the concert hall,” said Ms Galaise.
