Youth leadership programs offer a range of opportunities for young people to get involved, connect with others, learn and develop skills, have their voices heard, and create positive change in lives and communities.
Young people across the Barwon Region that are interested in doing just that are being encouraged to take part in a new program.
Created by The City of Greater Geelong, Surf Coast Shire, Golden Plains Shire and Colac Otway Shire, Regional Youth Voice is an initiative which has been designed for keen policy influencers aged between 15 and 20 years.
The free program will welcome 12 young people who will receive leadership training and networking opportunities with their peers.
“There are so many ambitious and enthusiastic young people in the Barwon region who would benefit greatly from the Regional Youth Voice program,” explains Greater Geelong Mayor Stephanie Asher.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity to learn leadership and networking skills in a supportive environment while influencing decision making in the region on issues that matter to young people.”
Successful applicants will join forces for five meetings, scheduled between June and December 2020 where participants will get to connect with each other, discuss issues and opportunities that impact young people and provide recommendations to groups such as councils regarding their views and opinions. Online training will also be provided to ensure all participants are suitably prepared for the program.
