Here’s a list of Christmas gigs to get loose at and get merry

So it’s Christmas time, and in between stuffing your face with cold meets and unwrapping presents, it’s time you headed out and listened to some sweet local music. After all, there’s only so many times you can listen to Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want for Christmas’.

Karova Xmas Eve

After lining up Ballarat with some seriously good gigs all year, Karova is having one last gig to say ‘Merry Christmas’ – at least that’s what we hope. The Xmas Eve gig kicks off at 8pm and runs until late (but not so late you can’t tuck yourself in bed ready for Christmas morning) and features the likes of Bel Air, Wax Nomads, Teal Av, Barry Sunset and Fitz-e. Bel Air in particular are on the rise who recently won ‘The Very West’ competition to play the opening slot at Melbourne’s Laneway festival. Find out more info here.

The Annual Boxing Day Slam

One of the biggest gigs on the Barwon Club calendar is back again, and hell, we hope you’re ready for this. The Boxing Day Slam returns for the ninth time with The Meanies as headliners, Chook & Moluck spinning the tunes and Stormtide, Pretty City, Baked Beans, Jurrasic Nark, Chom Dingo, Hakeem Cannons, Von Stache, Wallet Inspector and so many more. It all kicks off at 3pm, so get your Boxing Day bargain shopping done early, and save some cash for this one, because you’ll want the pots flowing all night. Worth noting this will be The Meanies’ last show for a long while.

A nightclub Christmas at Homehouse

When it comes to going out and staying open, Homehouse do not hold back. Not one iota. Opening the 23rd, 24th (Xmas Eve), Christmas and Boxing Day, there’s really no better place to shake off having spent a day with family. If you know what we mean. Across the few days you’ll see sets from Shameless, RyanRCue, Johnny Canik, Chango Phat and many more.

The Bennies Christmas bash

The Bennies are planning on ending the year just as big as they started it. The Bennies Spliffmas  is the name of the band’s Christmas show, rounding out a year of appearing on triple j’s Hottest 100, touring the world, and climbing the Australian charts. Together with The Flying So High-Os and Private Function, they’ll be marking the beginning of a very merry holiday as well as their last show of the year. It all goes down at the John Curtin on December 23. Find out more info here.

Extras: The Eastern (Ballarat) Xmas Break Up Party of Champions on December 23, UNO Danceclub Boxing Day Sundae and Babushka Bar (Ballarat) Punk Rock Acoustic Christmas Spectacular on December 22.

Merry Christmas ya filthy animals.
