Geelong’s Lash78 are the latest winners of the Homegrown Superstars competition

Australian musos have come together and created a new initiative called ‘HomeGrown Superstars’ – a national singing competition that you can enter through Instagram.

Running for the past six weeks, the new digital competition is all about supporting aspiring singers, helping them gain exposure across Australia and compete for a weekly prize of $500 – $250 for the winner and $250 for their choice of charity.

Each week, talent is judged by some of the country’s greatest performers – including Casey Donovan and Rob Mills. And absolutely anyone can enter. Participants just need to upload a clip of up to 60 seconds on Instagram and use the hashtag #HGSuperstarsAU.

Last week’s theme saw a call for Aussie Anthems, championed by celebrity judge Shannon Noll, and Geelong sister duo Lash 78 have just been announced as the latest winners in the national competition.

Uploading a 60-second clip of the Divinyls ‘I Touch Myself’, the sisters payed tribute to Geelong’s very own rock diva Chrissy Amphlett who died from breast cancer. ‘I Touch Myself’ was their biggest hit and touched millions of fans around the world. The #itouchmyselfproject brought together 10 of Australia’s leading female music artists to turn Chrissy’s song about female self-love into an anthem for breast cancer to inspire a new generation of women to touch themselves.

This is a huge win for the local sisters, who announced they will be investing the prize money back into a single release later in the year, whilst also getting to support the charity of their choice Camp4Cancer Geelong / Camp 4 Cancer.

The upcoming single will be the first new music from the rock-pop duo this year, following the release of their debut EP ‘Who’ last year. Reminiscent of Swedish First Aid Kit, the EP was jam-packed with energy, fire, twang, and the voices of the sisters are empowering and motivating, stirring many emotions: strength, anger, sadness, passion and more.

We can’t wait to see what the girls come up with.
