Internationally recognised street artist Rone turned the three unused silos from an ‘eyesore’ into an artwork that celebrated the city back in 2017.

Painting three large stylised images of local faces on the side of the silos – Corrina Eccles, a descendent of the queen of the Wadawurrung and traditional owner, Cor Horsten, who has had a 35-year career at the Geelong Cement Works, and Kelly Cartwright, a dual Paralympic gold medal-winner – Rone successfully improved the landscape for the community.

Demolition of the silos commenced back in March this year as owners Adelaide Brighton deemed them unsuitable for restoration and potentially unsafe long-term.

While the silos faces were successfully removed, works to clear the site have stalled with the pausing of material beings transported off-site after winds sawdust from trucks and the demolition site blow across nearby residential properties. It’s claimed that the site will still be cleared by its original deadline in May before being sold off.

We don’t know about the rest of you, but we’re sad to see them go.
