Geelong kids' band wins national award as best live act

Geelong’s very own children’s entertainment masters, The Mik Maks have taken home gold after being declared the Best Kids Live Act at the prestigious 2018 What’s on 4 Kids Gala Awards in Brisbane.
Brothers Brian, Joel and Al McInnes dedicated the award to their brother Dean, who sadly passed away suddenly last April. The Mik Maks were formed in 2011, and the brothers said they have every intention of continuing Dean’s legacy.
The release of their new song ‘We Brush Our Teeth’ last Friday Friday, was another step forward in the healing process, as would their national PLAY tour, which will be starting in a month.
“This year has been incredibly tough, the absolute worst,” Al said. “But even when you’re feeling absolutely gutted, you’ve just got to keep putting one foot in front of the other. And that’s what we’ve done. We keep making music. Dean wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. We love what we do and can’t wait to begin touring our new show in September and sharing the award with our fans.”
We Brush Our Teeth is a fun and catchy tune and is sure to have kids eager to brush their teeth. Joel says, “Kids can learn so much through music,” he said. “These kinds of songs help children relate to everyday things in a fun and entertaining way.”
The national industry awards have been operating for seven years and are presented by Australia’s leading What’s On 4 Kids business. The awards celebrate and showcase the hard work, determination and achievements of many Australian small businesses that are dedicated to giving children a strong foundation in activities such as sport, music and arts.
Community votes and an independent judging process were both used, meaning all winners are determined based on merit and community support.
The Mik Maks have already sold out shows for their PLAY tour. Tickets are still available for shows in Geelong, Ballarat, Melbourne, Colac, Warrnambool, Shepparton and Hamilton.
