Forté’s Guide to Beyond The Valley

Deck yourself out in the best festival gear, find your tent and start packing the car – Beyond The Valley is back again for round three! Running over the New Year’s weekend, thousands are expected to overtake Lardner Park to check out this musical paradise.

Getting There
BTV is located in one of the most stunning parklands in rural Vic. If you are road-tripping with the crew, this will be a two to three hour drive from Geelong and approximately 90 minute from Melbourne CBD – depending on the route you take of course. There is also the method of driving to Queenscliff, and taking your car on the ferry to Sorrento (40 mins), and driving to the festival which will take 1.5 hours which can turn your trip into a cheeky scenic journey. Alternatively, catch a train into Melbourne (Southern Cross), then jump on the V/Line train to Drouin Station, on the Traralgon line, where there will be regular BTV shuttle buses to deliver you to the valley.

The Beats
BTV’s line-up is pretty sick. Among the many great artists (think Ali Barter, Harts, Montaigne and The Delta Riggs), one of the most exciting names on the list is US hip hop artist Chance the Rapper. Since 2010, this legend has had several releases and collaborated with some major artists like Kanye West, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and Justin Bieber. This will also be the first Australian show for Chance the Rapper – so you’d be mad to miss it.

A home-grown favourite, hip hop group Thundamentals are also on their ‘Never Say Never’ Tour, and are planning to end the show with a bang at BTV on the 29th. They will be bringing their impressive catalogue of songs, including latest 2016 releases to the festival to grow their ‘Thundakats’ army.

Get Married at Beyond The Valley!?
Technically, it’s a fake marriage, but the chapel on site have their own ‘priests’, make-up artists, photographers, and even professional actors to give the ‘wedding party’ the most unforgettable experience – complete with fake vows, speeches and certificates! We’re expecting kissing and tears for a few starry-eyed love birds…

Interactive Art displays – yes, you can climb them.
Super talented artist, Joel Dean Stockdill will be on hand designing huge scale, climbable pieces of art, made completely from recyclable materials. He has been an artist-guest at festivals worldwide, and now he’s bringing his impressive catalogue of creativity to Beyond The Valley! There will also be cool morning yoga classes, a hammock park (um yes!) and a range of food and bar stalls to peruse for the duration!
