Anther Spirits are opening up a distillery in Geelong

Melbourne-based small-batch gin company Anther Spirits are opening up a distillery in Geelong.

Located at the Powerhouse site at Federals Mills in North Geelong, it’s currently on track to open its doors in the second week of May.

Created by co-distillers Dervilla McGowan and Sebastian Reaburn, Anther Spirits was born out of curiosity and a love of hand made craft spirits, and championed by the teams desire to experiment and collaborate so they can develop great new distillates.

While of course gin is what their best known for (having been awarded Australia’s Best Gin in 2018), Anther Spirits distillery will mainly focus on producing hand sanitiser, following the unprecedented demand for it during the pandemic which in turn caused shortages across the healthcare system and beyond.

In a statement posted on their website, Anther Spirits said:

“To all our friends and family, over the past few weeks our business has gone through profound change, and we are doing everything to stay safe and keep our wonderful Anther gin alive.

“Over the last 12 months the Anther family have been working on the planning for our dedicated distillery in North Geelong. On Easter weekend we cut the concrete in a stunning 1915 federation wool mill in the incredible Federal Mills district. Check facebook and instagram for updates!

“We are also producing sanitiser to help businesses and people in the Geelong, Bellarine, and Surfcoast area safe, and you can buy sanitiser and gin directly on our website.”

The distillery – which will also create local jobs – will be open for take away cellar door sales of gin and sanitiser, with future plans to host 250-person capacity events and bar space which will have distilling courses, gin tastings, gin making classes and events for the local hospitality community once social distancing and mass gathering restrictions have lifted.

While the opening of the distillery is only weeks away, you can already purchase the sanitiser online via the website, which has been produced thanks to Drysdale distillery The Whiskery who have allowed them to bottle their products there in the interim.

You can purchase their hand sanistiser online here and stay up to date with all the latest via their Facebook page.
